Managing Personal Competence (estimated release date: early 2010)

The primary aim of this course is to ensure that the student acquires (i) a range of generic competencies relating to personal effectiveness and(ii) a set of specific competencies relating to the key human resource functions of acquiring, maintaining and developing staff.

The generic competencies include: self-awareness and reflection; self-management; communication; organising and planning; leadership and influencing; and basic business numeracy, comprising: (i) financial numeracy and (ii) statistical numeracy.

The competencies regarding HR functions include:

  • Competencies for people management, comprising: change management and teamworking.
  • Competencies relating to acquiring staff, comprising: human resource planning; recruitment and selection; and induction.
  • Competencies relating to maintaining and developing staff, comprising: learning and development; performance management and reward; and employee relations (negotiation, bargaining, discipline and grievance and dispute resolution).
