I gained a practical experience in business administration through years spent as a consultant and being one of the executives involved in the start-up of a new practice of a consultancy. However I was feeling the need to support my practical experience with some theoretical models and business studies. In 2002 I was offered, by my Company, the opportunity to attend to the consortium program at the Edinburgh Business School.
Reconciling work with study required effort and commitment, long nights and weekends spent on the books. However, the knowledge gained during the studies proved to be useful immediately on my day-to-day work.
Some courses, like Accounting, Negotiation, Finance, Marketing and Economics, opened me up to completely new ways to cope with companies’ problems.
The Organisational Behaviour course has been fundamental to better management of relationships with people, project teams, customers, bosses and other stakeholders.
Other courses, like Strategic Planning and Project Management, developed passions that brought me to read a lot on the arguments and to get Project Management professional certification at the Project Management Institute.
The studies at EBS have been a unique experience for my professional growth, but also to enjoy a wonderful time in Edinburgh and to strike up friendships that will last forever.
I would recommend this experience to anyone who wishes to do an MBA.
