I wanted to do an MBA in the conventional manner with a written course of study. Since I was resident in Kuwait at the time, I did not want to attend any lectures or study in the UK or elsewhere: I wanted to be able to take examinations in my country. I was able to do this at the British Council in Kuwait. Hence the MBA had to meet these requirements for being truly remote and having no contact with the university or with lecturers or other students. Furthermore, I did not want the case study approach, more the modular style with core subjects plus options; this course suited me excellently from all these important aspects.
Secondly, I wanted a fair price – there are many institutions offering MBAs that have pitched their prices too high. In my case I was sponsoring myself – not by my company – so this was an aspect too. The linkage that you have with the FT gave some credibility and reassurance to me.
Thirdly, I can say I really enjoyed doing the course – just like being a student again (my bachelors was in 1969 and I completed the HW MBA in 2002). The materials are generally very well written.
Finally, I did the course in about three and a half years, which pleased me, and I only had one retake to do. I attended the graduation ceremony with my family in Edinburgh on a lovely summer’s day – and thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.
