Mongolia testimonials
Altantuya Altankhuu
I started my MBA studies with EBS in 2001 and finished it in 2007. At first I was not sure if this was my cup of tea, but after the pleasant surprise of passing my 1st exam, (Accounting), I gained a lot of confidence.
I was very lucky to have a CEO who agreed to finance my MBA course, because without this, my background of being an average citizen in a developing country would have made it impossible.
The only time I could study was after my work and during weekends. In the beginning I had to read the module twice and go over every multiple choice question and case study. Later on I was able to absorb material by just reading it once, (but not Finance). I even used to take my reading when I went to the hairdresser! For 5 years I did not take any holidays, and instead every May during my holiday I would prepare for exams, which were sat at the British Embassy in Mongolia.
From time to time, when I think back, I don't know how I managed it. I found motivation from the fine materials designed for self learners. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was fascinated by the skills and knowledge of the professors-authors, although regretfully I could not see or talk to them or ask questions.
When I started my MBA, only the hard copies were available and later on when the on-line access was introduced it was a great advantage. I found past papers on-line which helped me so much, especially Finance. I remember working on all the past years exam materials, which guaranteed my pass. I had 2 fails, Project Management and Finance. The reason for the PM failure was after I passed my first 2 exams I became over confident thinking "I will pass". Finance was simply difficult for me and I had to spend a whole year only on this subject.
Not only was I proud of myself, I enjoyed the knowledge I obtained and how this knowledge took me up the ladder. I felt a huge difference within me, especially when I had problems or issues, the words would flow spontaneously and I even surprised myself! I was able to perform well, help colleagues and teach new employees; that was the biggest satisfaction I could get.
