Colin Garvie is an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance at Edinburgh Business School, with responsibility for course development in both programmes.

He has wide-ranging postgraduate experience teaching accounting and finance for many organisations including Edinburgh Business School, University of Strathclyde, ACCA, CIMA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, of which he is a member.

In addition, Colin currently provides management consultancy, non-executive director services and general business advice to small and medium sized businesses throughout the UK via his own consultancy company, Square 1 Consultants. His current non-executive directorship specific duties include 'sounding board' on strategic matters and acting in an FD capacity when required.

Prior to running his own business, Colin was employed by the UK's leading venture capitalist, 3i, where his responsibilities included inter alia, the identification, investigation, negotiation and completion of a number of new investments in both start-up and existing companies in Scotland. In addition, he was responsible for monitoring the performance of a portfolio of investments consisting of a mixture of equity and loans and negotiating further investment into companies on the existing portfolio.
