Dr Sheila Wright is Honorary Professor at Edinburgh Business School.

Dr Wright is Director of Strategic Partnerships Ltd which, since its inception in 1989, has undertaken executive education, competitive intelligence, competitive analysis and business development projects in several countries. 

After 20 years in industry as a business analyst, Dr Wright spent a further 22 years teaching competitive intelligence, competitor profiling, strategic competitive management, marketing and business strategy to post-graduate, research degree and executive education cohorts.

As Reader in Competitive Intelligence & Marketing Strategy at De Montfort University, Leicester, Dr Wright has published two books, over 60 refereed journal articles, conference and occasional papers. She also designed and delivered over 45 customised workshops, specialist seminars and executive education events in Europe, UAE and USA.

Dr Wright’s research output has been published in leading titles such as European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Strategic Marketing, Thunderbird International Business Review, among others.

Her main interests lie in securing improved competitive performance and decision making in firms of all sizes, at both the individual, organisational and national levels, for which her publications have been widely cited. Dr Wright has served on the Advisory Council of the Institut für Competitive Intelligence, Germany and as a board member for the UK Competitive Intelligence Forum. 

She was elected to the Executive Board of the Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals Society, USA, being the first UK national to be elected by this largely US member based professional body. Dr Wright also served on the Society’s selection committee and was elected to the Executive Board of the Strategic Planning Society, UK.

In 2018 she was inaugurated as a Fellow into the US-based Council of Competitive Intelligence Fellows, only the fourth person from the UK to be elected into this august organisation.

Dr Wright has supervised five successful Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies, one Master of Philosophy (MPhil), 14 MSc/MA/MBA dissertations (nine with distinctions) and five Executive MBA/in-company dissertations (four with distinction). She has also acted as external examiner for the Universities of Wales, Loughborough and Derby (PhD, PG, UG) and Nottingham Trent University (DBA).

Dr Wright received two Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Awards, and in 2011 she received an Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence, Outstanding Reviewer Award.
