"I am the subject leader for Organisational Behaviour and the programme leader for the MSc in Human Resource Management.
I also fulfil the role of Director of Research for Edinburgh Business School, and I mentor and supervise students on our DBA programme.
My first career was in Work Study, Organisation and Methods and Human Resource Management. After acquiring an MBA by part-time study, whilst working as an HR manager, I was given the opportunity to do some part-time lecturing. I enjoyed it so much I thought I’d try it full-time. Nearly 25 years later I’m still doing it, so I suppose I must like it!
When I decided I was going to stay in the academic world I undertook a PhD (again part-time) on the topic of management development and I have published on that subject.
I joined EBS as a full-time member of faculty in 2004. In addition to my work at EBS I am an honorary teaching fellow in the School of Management at the University of St Andrews. In that capacity I have taught on the MBA programme from Sciences Po (Paris) and on executive development programmes, including one with Mercedes- Benz UK.
With my colleague Martin Dowling I am co-author of the EBS course ‘Managing Personnel Competencies’. With Martin I was involved in the ESRC- funded project ‘Capitalising on Creativity: Creative Industries in Scotland’.
I am also the author of a text book, ‘Human resource management for MBA students’, 2nd edition, CIPD Publishing, London, 2011; and I am currently working on the 3rd edition, due for publication in 2016. "
